fonts-symbola software package provides symbolic font providing emoji characters from Unicode 7.0, you can install in your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install fonts-symbola
fonts-symbola is installed in your system.
Make ensure the fonts-symbola package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep fonts-symbola *
You will get with fonts-symbola package name, version, architecture and description in a table
